“Nate, I can’t! I just don’t…… it’s not possible.” She frowned and looked really annoyed about it, as if she was annoyed with herself for not being able to afford to take her kid out for the day.

I sighed and stepped back, letting her go. I turned towards the kitchen doorway. “DJ, get your shoes on kid, your Momma and I are taking you to the zoo!” I called.

Rosie gasped and grabbed my arm, “No! I can’t, you can’t just say things like that, Nate. It’s different for you, I’m sure you have spare cash floating around all over the place, but I don’t! You can’t just make promises to him like that, it’s not fair!” she said, shaking her head at me, her jaw tight and angry.
